Electrostatic & Fogging Disinfection

For challenging areas or spaces that require more thorough disinfecting, Royal Maintenance and Cleaning utilizes advanced cleaning techniques. Beyond our normal janitorial services, we can provide electrostatic disinfecting and fogging disinfecting. These two commercial cleaning services utilize special machines to vaporize disinfectants to more thoroughly cover all surface areas.

What is Electrostatic Disinfecting?

Electrostatic disinfecting is a touchless application of chemicals used after janitorial services to efficiently and evenly coat surfaces with a disinfecting solution. The electrostatic applicator applies a negative charge to the disinfecting solution as it leaves the application tool. Since charged molecules repel each other, they create a more evenly distributed disinfectant application, which is attracted to the applied surface, thereby creating 360-degrees of coverage. These charged particles create a web of disinfectant over the applied surfaces with a micron size between 40 to 110 microns. This service is particularly important because germs and bacteria hide in hard-to-reach areas, which are reached during an electrostatic disinfecting service.

Benefits of Electrostatic Disinfecting:

  • Covers 360-degrees of applied surfaces
  • Evenly distributed application allows for required disinfectant dwell times
  • Reaches hard-to-reach cleaning surfaces and spaces
  • Reduces the risk of cross contamination because of touch application processes
  • Allows for disinfectants to hold their cationic charge, which prevents dripping
  • Uses on average 65% less chemicals per square foot than standard cleaning (eco-friendly service option)

What is Fogging Disinfecting?

Fogging disinfecting is similar to the touchless application technique of electrostatic disinfecting but is different in two ways. Fogging disinfecting utilizes nearly the same technology without charging the cleaning molecules when they leave the machine. Additionally, fogging cleaning uses larger particle sizes compared to an electrostatic service with an average particle size of 20 to 50 microns. In many instances, a fogging application can be used in the same situations and settings as an electrostatic service.

Benefits of Fogging Disinfecting:

  • Covers more surface area with disinfect per square inch, based on larger micron size
  • Treats a cubic volume of air in a space
  • Reaches hard-to-reach surface areas and spaces
  • Reduces the risk of cross contamination because of touch application processes
  • Efficiently sanitizes larger service areas, compared to other vapor cleaning methods

Top Most Frequently Asked Questions About Electrostatic & Fogging Disinfecting

Spaces can be used an hour after the electrostatic and fogging disinfection services. We recommend that all personnel vacate the service area during these services and that all air units and fans be shut off until the space is reoccupied.

Electrostatic and fogging services can be conducted as often as required by the site and situation. Medical facilities typically require more frequent services, however during peak flu seasons sensitive facilities (e.g. education centers, sports facilities, etc.) tend to increase their service frequency.

The service lasts throughout the chemical dwell time and as long as the space is not reinfected with bacteria and/or viruses. If you think a space becomes reinfected, then we recommend follow-up electrostatic/fogging services.
